Let's create a dungeon with Cairn 2e - part 3

After creating a realm, a faction and a forest for my future Silksong-inspired duet campaign (I talked about how the idea came to be here) I've started creating a dungeon (The Abandoned Manor) that will be part of said forest using the procedure included in Cairn 2e's Warden's Guide. You can find part 1 here and part 2 here. We expanded the first 4 rooms of the dungeon last time, so let's continue from there.

5. LORERoom type: 11, Kitchen / Clue: 6, Leavings
6. LORERoom type: 4, Cistern / Clue: 18, Temperature
7. LORERoom type: 14, Shrine / Clue: 5, Footprints
8. TRAPTrap: 1, Ages / Trigger: 4, Disturbing

5. This room used to be the manor's dining room, where the cult partook in rituals to try to connect with the deceased by having one of them consuming a large quantity of the mushrooms found in forest area 2. Some remains of mushrooms are still present only on one plate, the one at the head of the table. A chimney is present: on the mantelpiece there are five mirrors set in the stone. Pressing the second from the left opens a secret door leading to room 6.

6. The air in this windowless room is borderline freezing. Mist fills this vast cistern. At the far end, where the mist is so thick it's almost solid, there's a massive statue of an Elven woman wearing a long flowing dress (the Elven Goddess of Death) with her arms outstretched as if in a hug. Carved in the floor in front of the statue is the writing in Elvish Come, join me, they're waiting for you. The area inside her arms is the Veil where the Mirror can be used.

7. This smaller room is dominated by a massive shrine with a table in front of it. Old blood stains cover the area around the table. This is where the leader of the cult experimented to create the Mirror. Hidden under a floorboard between the table and the shrine (recognizable because the pattern of blood looks off due to the board being tilted) is the leader's diary, detailing his work (in Elvish) in notes that become less and less coherent as time passes. It also indicates the passage behind the shrine leading to 6. There is a door leading to 8.

8. Even smaller than 7, it presents a Human-sized mirror against the wall opposite the door. Above it, the writing in Elvish Is it your time yet?. If standing in front of the mirror its surface ripples and shows you a possible death that can occur to you; every time a different one.

And we're done! It's obviously not refined or ready for publication by any means, but I think this is already enough to bring it to the table. What do you think? And as always, feel free to add this location to your campaign if it inspires you. If you do that, please let me know how it went and what you changed, I'd love to hear from you!

This is all for this week, see you next Sunday for my next post!

May your dice never betray you,
Kirhon
