Let's create a faction in Cairn 2e!

This week I'm going to create a faction for my future Silksong-inspired Duet campaign, which was the subject of this post and for which I created a Realm in last week's post.
Just like I did for the Realm, I'm going to use Cairn 2e's Warden's Guide procedure to do so. Let's begin!

1. First of all, let's roll 2d20 to establish the FACTION TYPES:
Type: 15, Revolutionaries;
Agent: 10, Laborer.
We have a working class faction already, and the two results work well together. Nice!

2. Next we roll 2d20 again for the FACTION TRAITS:
Trait 1: 12, Keen;
Trait 2: 5, Corrupt.
Ok, so they're very passionate about their cause, but corruption poisons their ranks. A story as old as time.

3. Now we roll for the FACTION ADVANTAGES. First we roll 1d20 to establish the number of Advantages this faction has between 1 and 4: 1, so it has 1 Advantage; now let's roll 1d20 again to discover which one it is: 16, Resources. Since it's laborers, it makes sense.

4. Then we roll 2d20 for the FACTION AGENDAS:
Agenda: 19, Seek new leadership;
Obstacle: 13, Considerable capital is required.
I like how everything is coming together seamlessly. They're revolutionaries, of course they want new leadership, and revolutions are expensive. How do they plan to obtain this capital? And what do they need it for?

5. Now we only need the FACTION NAME: first of all, much like the Realm, we roll 1d6 for the Name Formula: 5, (The)[Noun][Adjective][Group]. Then we roll on the corresponding tables:
Noun (d100): 35, Dead;
Adjective (d100): 23, Death;
Group (d20): 6, Collective.
...just like with the Realm, I feel like the naming section is not the best of the bunch. I rerolled a couple of times, then ended up picking a name that sounded cool and appropriate to me: The Crimson Rain Collective, whose rainclouds seek to obscure the Celestial Principality of the Dawn. Yes, that could work!

And we're done! This will obviously not be the only faction present in the world, but it is an example of how the procedure works, and I think it works pretty well (name excluded). I feel a bit like Brennan Lee Mulligan putting a faction like this in my game, and that is not a bad thing for me!
Have you ever tried this procedure? If you have, let me know what faction you came up with!

This is all for this week, see you next Sunday for my next post!

May your dice never betray you,
Kirhon
