Colostle - The Locked Room - Episode 1
It's time for another session recap of a solo journaling TTRPG: this time I'm trying the free demo of Colostle, a solo journaling TTRPG where you explore a massive planet-sized castle using a deck of cards.
Despite being just a 4 page demo, it's already enough for quite a bit of gaming, as you're about to see: this first episode is just character creation and introduction! But I've already blabbed enough, let's get into it.
I've never kept a journal before, but if there ever was a day to start one, it's today.
My name's Erina and tomorrow I'll venture outside the safety of the Village for the first time. Earlier today I took part in the Ceremony of Fitting, which marked my passage into adulthood. During the Ceremony the Rook arm my grandmother took from the smoking ruins of the creature she felled 30 years ago was connected to my body, its hookshot tip now protruding from between my shoulder blades. It...will take a while to get used to it, especially when it comes to sleeping, but I'll manage.
Oden managed.
Oden managed.
Oden was my big brother and best friend. He received this same arm 5 years ago during his Ceremony of Fitting, when he turned 18. He was very brave...perhaps too much: he thought he could take down the giant Rook roaming the Locked Room and perished trying. I promised I'll avenge him, and one day I will. Before I can do that, though, I need to explore new lands and acquire experience and knowledge, and there's only one way to do it: leaving the Locked Room.
I know, no one has left it in generations and many think it's not even possible, but there must be a reason the colossal door at the other end of the room has a key, as giant as it may be. Oden thought this hook might be what's needed to turn the key and open the door, revealing whatever is on the other side, but he was never able to test his theory; I'll do it.
For him.
The elders of the Village have tried to dissuade me, to tell me it'd be a shame to waste such a versatile Rook arm to go get killed for nothing, but their hands are tied: Village law dictates after the Ceremony of Fitting one must find their way in life and, while advice is always welcome, it is forbidden to stop a new adult from following their calling.
So...tomorrow will be the big day. I don't know what will happen or how it will go, but I'll be back to take down that Rook.
For Oden.
This is all for this week, see you next Sunday for my next post!
May your dice never betray you,
Kirhon
