Let's create a Punk is Dead character!
This week I'll continue my character creation series, continuing the series of Borg-like games characters made for a future project of mine. These will be alternating with other kinds of posts, like my solo campaigns recaps and some gameable content coming from my Duet Pirate Borg home game.
This time we're going with Punk is Dead by Tim Roberts, a post-apocalyptic songwriting TTRPG (as it says on the cover) which sees the PCs as members of a band touring the Ununited Kingdom after nuclear destruction. Without further ado, let's get into it!
1. First of all, as usual, we roll for our class, or in this case BAND ROLE. There are 7 possible choices, 3 of which are hip-hop themed; for personal preference I'll roll a d4 to stay within the more punk-themed roles: 3, Drums. I've played guitar in the past so I was hoping for that...but the dice chose otherwise.
This band role gives us -2 DR to any test related to using brute force with our hand and feet and a Quantum Fuckery, d6: 1, Flam, which allows us to make two attacks instead of one;
2. Next we roll for our ABILITIES, which are a bit different in this game, including the modifiers given by our class:
-Nngh: 10+2=12 => 0
-Deft: 9 => 0
-Stage Presence: 17 => +3
-Tough: 11+2=13 => +1
-Yeet: 10 => 0
-Streetwise: 6 => -2
3. Now we roll a couple of STARTING THINGS for our character:
-HP: Tough + d8: 1+6 => 7
-Individual Creativity Points, d4: 3. These are kind of like this game's Omen, but they work in a very different way: they can be spent to increase the value of a failed ability roll and turn it into a success; there are also Band Creativity Points, which are shared by the group and spent when the majority of the band agrees, but since this is for a solo game I won't use them
-Starting money: 2d6x10 (for all PCs)=13 + 1d6x4 (for the Drummer role)=12 => 25 £;
4. It's now time to determine our STARTING GEAR, which includes a Crash Cymbal (can be wielded as a shield for -d4 damage, though it increases all Deft tests' DR by 2) given by our class:
-Starting Equipment, d20 twice: 11, Aftershave / 9, Wind-up radio
-Weapon, d10: 2, Steak tenderizer (d6)
-Thread (Armor), d4: 1, T-shirt and jeans (which provide no armor, but look cool)
5. We're now at the TEENAGE TRAUMA table for our character, which will give us some background, d20 twice:
-8, You are no stranger to betrayal
-1, Escaped from a gang, cult or family who were total dickheads
6. Lastly, we need a NAME for our character and a BAND NAME, because while it'll be a solo game, our PC will still be part of one:
-Name: there's not tables for that, so...I'll go with Zeke
-Band name, 2d20: 16,3, The Ruthless Surgery.
And here we are! This is definitely a very peculiar Borg hack, and one that matches my passion for music, so I'm really looking forward to playing this character in the future.
This is all for this week, see you next Sunday for my next post!
