Caribbean Tales (solo Pirate Borg) - Episode 6

The following is part 6 of my solo Pirate Borg campaign. It focuses mainly around the character I created in this post, which was so interesting to me that it prompted me to set up a whole solo campaign. You can start with episode 1 here. Let's dive right in!

There wasn't much of a choice, therefore Sam grabbed his boarding axe and stepped forward; in that moment Catherine, whom he had forgotten about for a bit, reappeared right beside the skeleton he was about to attack. He panicked and swung his axe around as if to swat away a fly, eventually hitting the skull; he barely made a denti into it, though.
The skeleton tried to swing its knife towards Sam, but he was ready: a quick sidestep and he immediately saw an opening to strike back...only for the axe to get stuck between the ribs!
The situation looked dire, but he somehow managed to free his weapon and take a step back.
[This last bit is me rolling a nat 20 on defense, giving me a free attack, where I rolled a nat 1, immediately cancelled by using a Devil's Luck]
Sam could hear the rest of the crew fighting around him, but in that moment he had to focus on the enemy right in front of him: doing his best to ignore Catherine's figure at least for a second he looked at the skeleton and channeled all of his anger into his arm, hitting right below the jaw and detaching the head from the rest of the body; one moment later the bones crumbled into a pile of ASH.
Sam gave himself just the take to take a deep breath, then he scanned the area to see how his new crewmates were doing.
Sea Whale was taking down one skeleton after another easily, swinging a massive harpoon with surprising agility for her size; a bit farther a skinny young man in a white robe Sam had not noticed before and who looked extremely out of place was holding back a single skeleton quite well, despite looking on the verge of tears. On the opposite side of the circle from Sam Captain Ramirez was struggling against a couple of enemies: she tried to shoot them with her musket but missed, and one of them even managed to slap the rifle out of her hands! Sam immediately started running to go help her (and hopefully gain some points with her after his involuntary blunder earlier), but before he could reach her she had already rolled back towards the center, grabbed a pair of pistols from the pile of stuff the diggers had taken off to have an easier time with their work and shot both skeletons down while turning towards them, all in the span of a few seconds. It was an impressive show of lightning fast reflexes and Sam just slowed to a halt near her, not daring to say anything. The skeletons were all dealt with.
The Captain wiped the sweat off of her forehead and turned towards the diggers: I'll keep these babies for now, if you don't mind; you can have the musket. And thank you, newbie, she added, looking at Sam. You were the first one to rush to my aid.
-It clearly wasn't needed replied Sam, now daring to talk.
-Thank you, but it's always good to have backup. You never know when Fate will turn the other way and let you down.
Sam hooked his axe on his belt. Always ready, Captain.
-It's good to have you in my crew. Now
she said, raising her voice and looking towards the pit which was now a few feet deep, have you found anything?

This is it for this episode, I hope you enjoyed it! I'll continue in the near future.
See you next Sunday for my next post!

May your dice never betray you,
Kirhon
