Caribbean Tales (solo Pirate Borg) - Episode 3

The following is part 3 of my solo Pirate Borg campaign. It focuses mainly around the character I created in this post, which was so interesting to me that it prompted me to set up a whole solo campaign. You can start with episode 1 here. Let's dive right in!

One member of the crew, a woman with a patch over her right eye, erupted in a howl. That seemed to break the tension, and one moment later Sam, the Captain and the rest of the crew were laughing at the sudden outburst.
Captain Ramirez turned to a short man with a hook instead of his left hand beside her: I entrust you with the newbie, Brother Bilge. Make sure he knows how to behave and that he pulls his weight.
Aye aye, Captain replied the man, who then turned to Sam with a smile: Walk with me, mister. I'll show you the ropes as we follow the captain.
Where are we going? asked Sam And how ccan you trust me already? I wouldn't, if I were you.
Brother Bilge chuckled. Ah, don't worry about that. The Captain clearly saw something in you, and we all trust her judgement. Plus, if you try anything funny hood ol' Sea Whale will take care of you.
-You mean-
-Aye, the mountain of muscles you just ran into. She's lovely - well, the few times she's sober, at least - but never get on her bad side, or you'll regret it for the few seconds remaining in your life! Great storyteller, though.
-Thank you for the warning. One question: do I have to find a nickname like Brother Bilge or Sea Whale and forget my name to be a pirate, or something like that? How does it work?
Bilge finished scratching a bit of food from his teeth with his hook before replying. Nay, what weird ideas do they teach you in the Navy? I mean, if you want to, feel free to do it, but I doubt anyone's going to care. Sea Whale's name is Eleanor, by the way. Eleanor Williams. She's British like you. What's your name, mister? Either the real one or whatever you want me to call you.
Sam pondered it for a moment, but quickly realized he couldn't think about a fake name in the moment; he was too busy ignoring Catherine's figure hanging out in the corner of his eyes. My name is Samuel Robert Thomas, lieut- Sam. You can call me Sam.
-Short and sweet, I like it. You can call me Bilge. Listen, Sam, unless that piece of wood you're holding is very sturdy you're going arond unarmed, aren't you?
Sam looked at the fishing rod he was carrying. ...yeah. My previous captain confiscated my weapon before dropping me here.
-What a prick! He might've as well killed you himself, then. Had you not found us, you wouldn't have lasted long here.
-I guess not...thank you.
-Thank the Captain, not me. She makes the decisions here. Anyway, take this Bilge said, handing him a boarding axe.
-Are you sure? You'll be unarmed now.
-Nay, I got my hook here. He swung it around a couple of times; it wasn't very threatening. Besides, he added, I usually try to let others do the fighting. Tell you what, if any danger approaches us, I'll hide behind you.
Sam smiled, something just an hour earlier he thought he'd never do again. It's a deal, Brother Bilge, I'll protect you.

This is it for this episode, I hope you enjoyed it! I'll continue in the near future.
See you next Sunday for my next post!

May your dice never betray you,
Kirhon
