Caribbean Tales (solo Pirate Borg) - Episode 9
The following is part 9 of my solo Pirate Borg campaign. It focuses mainly around the character I created in this post, which was so interesting to me that it prompted me to set up a whole solo campaign. You can start with episode 1 here. Let's dive right in!

-You're a religious man, then? Sam asked the robed man. Despite everything the Dark Caribbean has to offer?
-Yes, I am, he replied. In fact, I am...or rather, I used to be a pastor, back in the Netherlands.
-You're not anymore?
-Sadly not, but it wasn't my decision. As you've seen earlier, I possess an...unusual connection with the Lord. I am capable of asking him questions and receiving proper answers, even though sometimes they are a bit...cryptic.
-Wow, that's incredible! Though not unusual, on this side of the Ocean.
-Exactly. Back in my homeland, though, it was almost unheard of, and that led to me losing my position and having to escape to these lands to avoid a...fiery demise. Long story short, I eventually ended up joining Captain Ramirez's crew.
-Wow, you've had quite an adventurous life.
-Far more than I would've liked, to be honest. But that was the plan the Lord had for me. What about you?
Sam smiled. I know so much about you already, but not your name. I'm Samuel, but you can call me Sam.
The man's eyes widened. Oh goodness, I've spent so much time with these pirates I forgot my manners! My name is Edward Jansen, but everyone calls me White, probably because of the robe.
-It does make you stand out, for sure, agreed Sam. As for me, I used to be in the Royal Navy until I had a disagreement with my captain. One thing led to another...and I ended up alone on this island, without a weapon, any food or my hair, but on the other hand with a bounty on my head.
-Wow, that sounds...extreme. Can I ask you what was the disagreement about?
Sam's face instantly darkened. It felt weird to open up to a complete stranger, but then again, despite his time in the Dark Caribbean, his concept of weird had just been redefined.
...heavily redefined, he thought while focusing once again his gaze on Catherine's ghost.
-We heard the Spanish were about to attack Naralio, a village formally under French influence but full of civilians. I argued it was our duty to protect them, especially from the Armada who's our rival, but the captain refused, citing unspecified political reasons. Things got heated, I desperately tried to convince him to change his mind, but nothing worked.
After a brief pause Sam added, his eyes avoiding both White and Catherine, my wife lived in that village. She didn't survive the attack.
