Caribbean Tales (solo Pirate Borg) - Episode 8

The following is part 8 of my solo Pirate Borg campaign. It focuses mainly around the character I created in this post, which was so interesting to me that it prompted me to set up a whole solo campaign. You can start with episode 1 here. Let's dive right in!

Ramirez almost growled as she spat on the ground. Let's bring it back to the ship. Pedro will have a lot of explaining to do.
No one dared to reply to that.
Sea Whale grabbed the chest with both hands, lifted it as if it weighed nothing and everyone began the walk back following the Captain; Ophelia, whose mind had not returned home yet, had her hand taken by Bilge and started meekly following him. Sam had the feeling this was a recurring task for the old man.
During the walk back to the ship the tension was so heavy they were all hunched over, barely speaking to each other. The jungle was still eerily silent, although now it felt more as if it was matching their mood.
After a few minutes Ophelia seemed to return from her trip. She immediately asked What did I miss?, which startled pretty much the whole crew except for the Captain, who appeared to be deep in thought at the front. Bilge shushed her and quietly started filling her in, but that sudden interruption had lifted part of the tension between them. Ophelia seemed to have a natural talent for that.
Seeing the white robed man all by himself, Sam decided to approach him. Excuse me, do you mind me asking a few questions?
The man almost jumped to the side, his breath short. What? Oh...sorry, I was...I was distracted for a moment. Yes, absolutely.
-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you.
-No no, it's fine, I'm just...recovering from what happened earlier. I am not a man of violence, usually.
-I can see that, if you don't mind me saying that. But still, I saw you. You held your own quite well against that skeleton.
-Did I? I could barely see through the tears.
Sam chuckled. Well, any fight you survive is a fight won. That's what I always say.
-Huh, I never thought of it like that; I guess you have a point. Thank you.
-Don't mention it. We're crewmates now, after all. And yet, I can't help but feel that you're a bit...out of place here. As much as one can be in such a variegated crew.
-You mean I stick out like a sore thumb?
This time it was his turn to chuckle. It's true, you're right, he added, preventing Sam's embarrassment. I never thought I'd end up in a pirate crew, yet this is the path the Lord chose for me.

This is it for this episode, I hope you enjoyed it! I'll continue in the near future.
See you next Sunday for my next post!

May your dice never betray you,
Kirhon
