Let's create a Mork Borg character!
This week I'll continue my character creation series, continuing the series of Borg-like games characters made for a future project of mine. These will be alternating with other kinds of posts, like my solo campaigns recaps and some gameable content coming from my Duet Pirate Borg home game.
This time we're going with the (diseased) mother of all Borg game, Mork Borg itself. For this one I'll refer to the Barebones edition of the game, which is just the same as the full game, just without art and downloadable for free. Kudos to Johan Nohr! Let's begin!
1. We start by rolling for our EQUIPMENT:
- d6: 5, A small wagon or smaller item (after seeing the rest of the rolls I opted for a sack which can hold up to 10 items);
- d12, 8: A metal file and lockpicks;
- d12, 6: A toolbox with 10 nails, tongs, hammer, a small saw and a drill.
2. Next we pick our CLASS, d6: 4, Wretched Royalty;
3. It's now time to roll our ABILITIES:
- Agility: 5, -2;
- Presence: 12, +0;
- Strength: 15, +2;
- Toughness: 11, +0.
4. We now roll for a few more things:
- Starting silver: 4d6x10=100s;
- Omens, a currency we can use to reroll failed rolls and reduce damage, which recharge daily if we're out of them, d2: 1;
- HP, Toughness+d6: 0+4=4;
- Weapon, d8: 3, Shortsword (d4 damage);
- Armor, d4 (but rerolling any heavy armor because of our class): 1, no armor;
- We also have a waterskin and d4 (4) days worth of food;
5. We now have a couple of CLASS TABLES to roll on:
- Things were going so well, until..., d6: 3, King Fathmu IX's borther Zigmund, your father, was murdered;
- Begin with two of the following, d6 twice:
- 5, Snake-skin gift, a poisonous dagger in an exquisite box. d4 damage, but on a 1 it kills the target [Sounds great! I'm just not sure how it works with armor];
- 6, Horn of the Schleswig Lords, which can be used once per day to release a blare and test Presence DR12; on a success one creature may make their next non-combat test an automatic success;
6. Next we have some OPTIONAL TABLES to flesh out our character:
- Terrible Traits, d20 twice: 14, Suspicious, and 20, Arrogant;
- Broken Body, d20: 10, Cataracts slowly but surely spreading in both eyes;
- Bad Habit, d20: 7, Your best friend is a skull. You carry it with you, tell it everything, and you trust no one more;
- Troubling Tale, d20: 1, Pursued for manslaughter. There's a bounty on your head;
7. Lastly, we need a NAME for our character, and the table for it asks us to roll a d6 and a d8 together: 4&4, Margar.
Very inspiring, I already have a couple ideas about the story of this character! I'll talk about it in the future, once I have all the characters created and I start my next solo project. For now, we are done!
This is all for this week, see you next Sunday for my next post!
