A new magic item: Rings of Bonding

Today's post is a bit of a special one, and you'll see why in a moment.

This week I present you a magic item I came up with to celebrate my wedding, which happened on Thursday (24th of April 2025); if you already follow me on Bluesky or Threads, you might have already heard about it.

I, being the terminally nerd that I am, decided to announce it on my blog with an idea for a magic item; this item does not have a specific system in mind, I left it vague enough that it should, hopefully, be usable in any OSR/NSR system as well as in D&D 5e.

 The Rings of Bonding

These magical rings represent a bond between two creatures. As long as these rings are worn by creatures who trust and care for each other, both creatures are immune to all forms of charming effects; moreover, when one of them is below half HP* the other creature gains a +1 to his attack rolls and to their AC**. If the bond between the creatures is broken, both of them suffer 2d10 points of damage, after which the rings lose all magical properties.

*For Into the Odd/Cairn type games, this would change to when one of them is at 0hp.
**For descending AC games, this would be a -1 to AC

That's it. I know this week's post is much shorter than usual, but I hope you'll understand. For the next couple weeks I'll be on my honeymoon, but I already planned other posts so there shouldn't be any interruption in the weekly posting (although there's a chance I won't be able to reply here on Bluesky until I return).

May your dice never betray you,
Kirhon
