Alone (Together) on a Map

This week's post is about a new game! (at least for me)

A few days ago me and my partner, while planning what to do next in our GMless 5e campaign Peace and Redemption (here's the links to the recaps of session 1 and sessions 2 & 3) we were talking about the fact that our characters had just reached the "wild" half of the continent, Utrad, and so far the only thing we knew about said continent was that it was big and populated by wandering tribes of various kinds of humanoids, and a couple of landmarks that came up when we first made the map, and that was it. We could've let the dice and the fate chart decide stuff on the spot during the sessions, but my partner espressed the wish to flesh the area a bit more a bit before diving into it, and that's when I had the idea.

Recently I started planning (although I have not started it yet) an idea about playing a series of solo games where I would first create a world, then put some landmarks in it, then create a character and eventually playing an adventure in said world, a kind of Solo Gaming Chain (more to come about it in the future), and the first game I had planned for this seemed a perfect fit for our needs: Alone on a Map by k-ramstack, she was interested in the idea and so we decided to dedicate our next gaming night to try it out.

Here's our final result:

I won't describe in detail every roll or card flip we did during the session, it would be too long and most likely boring, but I will point out a couple things that the randomness (and our interpretation) brought into Utrad:
-  A lonely volcano in the center of it;
- A portal to the Feywild to the East of it, with a village (of Fey creatures maybe?) near it;
- A (possibly ruined) temple on the West coast, with a tundra to the East of it but ending with a beach near the sea;
- A village in the jungle in the South, near a river ford woth a beach and a giant cave system just on the other side;
-  A secret valley in the North, surrounded by mountains, with only one secret entrance, which contains a Lizardfolk village and most importantly dinosaurs (yes, we went full Lost World with this one).

I'm sure if we had just sat at the table to try and make Utrad come alive by ourselves it wouldn't be anywhere near this interesting, and more will for sure come up during the sessions, so I encourage you to try this game (it's free!) or any other similar game and let your fantasy run wild!

This is all for this week, see you next Sunday for my next post!

May your dice never betray you,
Kirhon
