An Introduction

Hello everyone, and welcome to Delving Wolf!

What is Delving Wolf? Well, nothing more than the (at least) millionth TTRPG related blog, because I have the audacity to believe that my opinions matter enough that somebody will actually be interested in reading them.

For my first article I am going to introduce myself and tell you a bit about the kind of articles I am planning to post in here.

I am Kirhon, I'm from Italy and I've been vaguely interested into D&D (at the time that was a synonym to TTRPG for me, like for many people) for many many years, but without anyone to play with it was just a dream, until one day, near the end of 2021, while watching an actual play series on YouTube I decided that maybe I could finally try it myself, and since my birthday was approaching, I got the D&D Essential Kit...before even asking anyone to play with me! But I figured I'll find someone.

Best decision of my life.

I did find one friend who was interested, I started DMing for just me and him, we eventually found a second player, then the campaign fizzled out, as it often happens.

But meanwhile I found an active community on Discord, so I also tried online games: and again my first online game saw me DMing, and it was also my first game in English instead of Italian. It was a blast.

From that same Discord community I met people from all over the world, all cultures, all timezones...including the person I now share my life with. All thanks to D&D.

Lately I've started feeling like D&D 5e is becoming too...much for me, and while I will still play it and DM for it (I have an in person campaign in hiatus and an online one about to start) I've started looking up other games, buying a couple (like Fabula Ultima) and getting more and more into older editions and OSR-style games, even though I haven't had the chance to play one yet.

So that's what I bring to the table, and the articles I've planned so far revolve around my thoughts on games, both in person and online, worldbuilding, where i found my inspiration, and reports of my (soon to start) foray into solo OSR gaming and the 5e GMless campaign me and my partner just started, and whatever else will come up from this and the discussions I see on Bluesky. I hope you'll find them interesting.

May your dice never betray you,
Kirhon
